Build Your Jewish Social Justice Community

When people have a strong sense of community, they are more likely to identify a common purpose within that community and act together towards reaching a common goal. Anyone can build community by coming together around shared values and providing the resources and sense of direction necessary to collectively advance social change efforts. Social Change Shabbats, food justice volunteer days and networking events are just a few examples of the opportunities Pursue creates and offers up as spaces in which community can spark and grow.

Create and Run Your Own Programs
We believe that providing leaders and innovators with support and inspiration has a transformative effect on individuals and communities. Pursue doesn’t just put together events—we serve as a catalyst for Jewish change-makers in their 20s and 30s to organize their own collaborative justice efforts. Here are some resources and materials that you can use in your own community:

Pursue programs to implement on your own:

  • Social Change Shabbat. Host a Shabbat meal in your home. Invite community members to break challah, share a potluck item, and nourish their bodies and minds with yummy food, inspiring conversation and the chance to connect with folks who care about justice and change. Find resources and materials for planning this event here.
  • People of the Book Club. Round up a group of justice-minded community members for a chance to build relationships and think critically about social change. You can find a list of possible books, resources on facilitation and organizing, and more information here.

Pursue programs to implement in collaboration with us:

  • Justice and Jewish Thought. This participant-led study program is comprised of a challenging curriculum that explores how various oppressions – such as race, class, gender, sexual identity, and anti-Semitism – intersect with and affect our identities as Jews, our Jewish practices, and our social justice work. The course presents a unique opportunity to build community with a small group of committed people while sharpening your analysis related to social change.
