This is an introduction to the fabulous individuals who have committed to participating in Year IV of the Pursue City Team! Last year’s team included Shelley Buchbinder, Abigail Ellman, Samarrah Fine, Michal-Anne Fox, Leia Grossman, Allyna Steinberg, Jordan Steiner, and Laura Vernikoff. As you may recall, they brought you three fantastic Jewish social justice programs, including Planet Money, Learning Leads to Action (a Jewish-justice skillshare), and Peeling the Apple. Many thanks to all of them for their dedicated and creative leadership in helping to build and shape the Jewish social justice community in NY.
They are now passing the torch onto a new and equally fabulous team. Please read their letter of introduction below and respond to their questions. They’d love to meet you all and are interested in hearing from you. You can find their bios by clicking here.
Greetings Justice-Minded New Yorkers!
We’d like to introduce ourselves. We’re Pursue’s 2011–12 New York City Team. We’re volunteering to help build and strengthen New York’s Jewish social justice community through:
Hosting a variety of fantastic events! Recent examples include:
- Panel discussion about education reform
- Human rights film screenings and discussions on storytelling
- Learning and dialogue program about wealth inequality
- A Jewish-justice skill-share with opportunities to learn pilates, urban gardening, torah-reading, and how to fight homelessness
And… serving as a general planning & resource committee for the Pursue community.
We’re dedicated to pluralism, passionate about experiential learning, committed to service learning (and ACTION!), involved with local communities, enjoy fun, and are generally fascinated by skill-building. We plan to infuse our programming with all of this, but we wouldn’t be ‘doing our job’ if we did not also ask for YOUR INPUT!
Here are a couple of initial questions you can answer. Or maybe just think about.
1) What issues matter most to you?
2) What is one activity you’ve been meaning to do in NYC, but need the City Team to plan?
3) Do you have any specific program ideas?
4) What is Jewish about social justice to you?
5) Create your own question. We’re all for creativity.
6) Want to have a lemonade or tea with one of us?
Please email us at nycityteam@pursueaction.org with any/all answers. We’d love to do this work with as much of your input as possible. If we don’t hear from you, you may well hear from us!
All are welcome.
Looking forward to hearing from you, and seeing you very soon!
