What’s so scary about asking for money? How can grassroots fundraising be a movement-building tool? Dollars and Change is an introduction to the why and how of grassroots fundraising, offering skills-building training alongside discussion and analysis about why grassroots fundraising is a crucial tool for social justice movements.
This program is for you if…
- You’re interested in unpacking the role of money and philanthropy in social justice;
- You’re interested in exploring new ideas about leveraging resources for social change work;
- You’re exploring board service but you’re intimidated by the give / get requirement;
- You serve on a board and are looking for some best practices on giving / getting $$.
About the trainer:
Tyrone Boucher is a Philadelphia based economic- and food justice organizer working as a trainer and facilitator with the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance (AORTA). He has worked as a grassroots fundraiser for the Bay Area-based Catalyst Project and other grassroots organizations, and was a core member of Gulf South Allied Funders, a fundraising and organizing project launched after Hurricane Katrina to leverage resources towards community-led grassroots rebuilding efforts. Tyrone is also the co-creator of the website Enough: The Personal Politics of Resisting Capitalism, a space for critical dialogue about resource distribution and movement building. He spent two years on the organizing committee for the Making Money Make Change conference, co-founded the Solidarity Board at POOR Magazine, and has spent years facilitating workshops on economic justice, philanthropy, fundraising, and class.
Tyrone was named one of UTNE Reader’s 50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World in 2009 and is one of eight activists featured in the book Do It Anyway: Portraits of the Next Generation of Activists.
Dollars and Change is the second in a series of follow-up sessions to our successful training, “Organizational Leadership for Social Change: A Board Service Training.” While the sessions are designed to build on the training’s curriculum, prior participation in the training is not required to attend this program – all are welcome!
