Join Urban Adamah on their farm for an evening of Tu B’Shvat exploration as we bring ancient rituals to life through story, song, blessing, and great local food!

The Jewish mystics loved this holiday, the day in midwinter when the sap begins to rise in the trees. On this day, the bodily sefirot (basically, the Jewish chakras – or for chemistry fans, the periodic table of spiritual elements) would open, allowing Divine light to energize and renew our connection to our bodies and the earth. How exactly did this happen?

It was all about a mysterious combination of fruit, wine and chocolate. OK, they didn’t have chocolate. But we will.

Nearly 200 of you joined us last fall for our Chewing on Food Justice series, where we filled our heads with facts from expert panels about labor, corporations, access, and Jewish perspectives in the food system. Now Pursue invites you to fill your heart with stories of actual people experiencing injustices in the food system, as told through film.

This three part series will deepen our awareness of food justice at the local, national, and international level. Learn more about intersecting issues and our responsibility to respond as we prepare to take action around the US Farm Bill in 2012. Each session will feature a documentary film, discussion with Jewish thought sources, delicious eco-kosher refreshments, and time to socialize and network in community. (No prior knowledge of food justice issues and/or Jewish text is required or presumed.)

WHEN: Tuesday, July 19th, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
WHERE: Urban Adamah, 1050 Parker St, Berkeley. The farm site is about 1.5 miles from Ashby BART, so bikes and carpools are strongly encouraged!
FREE! Please do us the courtesy of RSVPing below
